Municipal Art Gallery

The Pinacoteca di Verucchio houses a precious collection of works by artists of national and international importance - including paintings, drawings and graphics - that narrate the evolution of 20th century art, from the early decades to the 1970s and beyond.

Founded in 1952 on the initiative of painter Gerardo Filiberto Dasi, it is rooted in the intense cultural ferment that animated Verucchio and Rimini in the mid-twentieth century. Dasi promoted international conferences and Biennales that brought together artists, critics and scholars from all over Europe, anticipating the trends that would mark the great art capitals, from Venice to New York.

The Pinacoteca's collection stems from Dasi's idea to ask the artists participating in the conferences to donate one of their works in order to establish a public collection that would bear witness to that lively international artistic debate. Today, the collection comprises around 200 works including paintings, drawings and graphics by nationally and internationally renowned artists. The works narrate the evolution of 20th century art, from its beginnings to the 1970s and beyond, thanks to successive additions to the holdings until 1993.

Among the artists present are Lucio Fontana, Emilio Vedova, Giuseppe Capogrossi, Leoncillo Leonardi, Kengiro Azuma, Rocco Borella, Liliana Cossovel, Achille Pace, Mauro Reggiani, Getulio Alviani, Francesco Guerrieri, Lia Drei, Giorgio Bompadre, Franco di Vito, Jean Pierre Vasarely, Bruno Rosai, Carlo Corsi, Gerardo Dottori, Maurizio Minarini, Norberto Pazzini, and a small work attributed to Picasso.

The Art Gallery is housed in a 19th-century palace in the heart of the village of Verucchio, where the rooms on the piano nobile have been restored. The rooms, originally the residence of the town doctor, now house the exhibition itinerary: two frescoed rooms - one of which is dedicated to temporary exhibitions - and a large hall with exposed beams house the most representative works of the collection. The remainder are kept in a storage room set up inside the building, with the aim of facilitating future exhibition renovations and enhancement projects.
