20th century by the sea | The Gothic Line. Guided tour of the places of memory

Comune di Montegridolfo

The Gothic Line represented one of the main military fronts of the final phase of the Second World War in Italy. Between the summer of 1944 and the spring of 1945, this imposing defensive line built by the German army crossed the Apennines from Massa to Rimini, transforming the Romagna territory into a theatre of war marked by battles, destruction and violence against the civilian population.
The initiative takes place at the Gothic Line Museum, which is the meeting and starting point of the entire route. A historical walk lasting about 60 minutes will start from here, conceived as an itinerary along a path suitable for everyone, which crosses the places of memory of the Romagna territory. The route is accessible and does not present any particular difficulties, but requires suitable clothing for the excursion: comfortable shoes are recommended and it is advisable to bring a water bottle.
The guided tour thus proposes a direct immersion in the landscapes marked by the events of the war and Liberation, offering an integrated reading of history and territory. In particular, the battles of Montegridolfo and Coriano emerge as key moments in the great Allied offensive to overcome the eastern Gothic Line in the late summer of 1944.
At the end of the walk there will be a visit to the Gothic Line Museum, accompanied by a convivial moment with a final snack.
