LIGHT ON THE 14TH CENTURY. THE REDISCOVERED FRESCOES OF VILLA VERUCCHIO. FROM PROVIDENTIAL DISCOVERY TO VALORISATION

Malatesta Rocca

At the MALATESTIAN ROCCA and the CONVENT OF SANTA CROCE

Presentation of the volume published by Vallecchi Firenze, with the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Rimini.
Luce sul Trecento (Light on the Fourteenth Century) is a breviary on a discovery that, behind apparent chance, has something providential and miraculous about it. The discovery of the frescoes behind the choir of the Franciscan church of Santa Croce in Villa Verucchio opens a new window on fourteenth-century Rimini painting, on its Giottesque and Byzantine ancestry, and on the history of medieval art tout court.
The institutional protagonists, through their authoritative representatives, speak about the discovery and the long journey of valorisation: the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Rimini, the Franciscan Community of Santa Croce, the Superintendency, the Municipality of Verucchio, and the Rotary Club of Rimini. To which are added the methodological reflections of the Nomisma company, regarding the community custody and promotion of a shared good.
The heart of the book, however, is entrusted to art history and criticism, which through illustrious scholars (Daniele Benati, Alessandro Giovanardi, Alessandro Marchi, Alessandro Volpe, Fabio Massacesi, Mauro Minardi, Simonetta Nicolini, Giovanni Rimondini, Giovanni carlo Federico Villa) in the footsteps of the painter Pietro da Rimini and his workshop offers its first reflections on a work that is only just beginning and will not fail to offer new material for research and reflection.
The presentation will be introduced by the Municipality of Verucchio, Father Bruno Miele, Guardian of the Convent, Dr. Paolo Pasini, President of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Rimini and the Publisher of the Vallecchi publishing house, Dr. Alessandro Bacci.
