Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga: Symphony in D (1825)

On the 150th anniversary of the death of the French composer Georges Bizet, a tribute is proposed to his most famous opera, Carmen, through a fantasia for flute and orchestra by François Borne: the virtuosities entrusted to the solo instrument highlight the talents of the soloist, Elena Giri, first solo flute of OSR, while the most famous themes of perhaps the most performed melodrama in the world are the main theme.

This is followed by Allan Stephenson's interesting Concertino for piccolo, strings and harpsichord: a tribute to the flute's "more acute brother", in which OSR's octavinist, Fabiola Santi, will perform.
The concert concludes with the Symphony in D by a little-known but very talented Spanish composer: the ease of writing and, undoubtedly, also the untimely death, have led to the nickname 'the Spanish Mozart'.
A symphony that is heard very little in concert halls and yet deserves to be rediscovered!
