EVENTO TRASCORSO
Emilio Filippini, poet of light
Comune di Cattolica
Homage to a great Cattolica painter.
The Santa Croce Gallery and the Museo della Regina in Cattolica are hosting an extraordinary retrospective exhibition dedicated to Emilio Filippini (1870-1938), one of the most important painters of twentieth-century Rimini: EMILIO FILIPPINI, POET OF LIGHT.
The exhibition, curated by art historian Alessandro Giovanardi in collaboration with Sabrina Foschini, Franco Pozzi and Chiara Tonti, celebrates the most significant and lesser-known works of the master from Cattolica. The title of the exhibition, Emilio Filippini, poet of light, pays tribute to his artistic sensitivity and his unique pictorial language.
Filippini, often described as a 'solitary' painter due to his reserve, is today recognised as one of the greatest exponents of 20th-century Rimini painting. His work, delicate and intense, explores themes of light, landscape and the human figure, with a particular focus on everyday life in Cattolica at the time. The exhibition, which marks the artist's return to the local exhibition scene, fills a gap of over forty years, since 1980, the year of the last exhibition dedicated to him.
The exhibition brings together over fifty works, including pastels, pencil and charcoal drawings, and oils, depicting rural and seascapes, as well as simple, authentic figures from everyday life. The works are on display at both the Santa Croce Gallery and the Museo della Regina. The exhibition catalogue, enriched with photographs by Gilberto Urbinati, was realised thanks to the contribution of RivieraBanca and offers an in-depth view of Filippini's work.
The exhibition was made possible thanks to the collaboration of three private collectors and the initiative of some of the painter's heirs, who made it possible to exhibit rare and intimate works.
