Commemoration of the Battle of Gemmano - Memory and Peace on the Eastern Gothic Line.
During the Second World War, Gemmano was one of the strongholds of the second German line, the Green Line 2.
This is precisely why the Allied bombardment here was so harsh.
The battle took place between 4 September and 15 September 1944; the town was literally razed to the ground, so much so that some historians called it 'The Cassino of the Adriatic'.
On Saturday 27 September, the event will be an opportunity to remember the past, reflect on the present and build a peaceful future together.
Programme of the day
Photographic exhibition: at Palazzo Pillitteri, with a projection of the project "Memories of the Eastern Gothic Line".
Direct testimony: meeting with a witness of the time who will recount first-hand memories of the Battle of Gemmano and life along the Gothic Line.
Open-air museum: exhibition of original military vehicles from World War II in the town centre.
Symbolic moment of peace: release of a hot air balloon for peace, an evocative gesture of universal brotherhood and an anti-war message.
