Traces and Pathways. The new discoveries of the Italian historical archaeological mission in Kurdistan

Comune di Riccione

The exhibition represents a significant step in the collaboration initiated in 2024 between MiSAK, the Museum of the Territory and the Department of Cultural Heritage of the University of Bologna as part of the 'Heritage Horizons' project, financed by the 'Global South 2024' call. This project aims to promote sustainable cultural tourism in the Garmian region through the enhancement of the historical-archaeological landscape, the involvement of local communities and the training of professionals.

Partners include ISMeo and the International Institute of Kurdish Culture in Rome. The contents of the exhibition document the research at the sites of Sarqala and Gawr Tepe, conducted by researchers from the University of Bologna, Luca Colliva and Serenella Mancini, as part of one of the two European missions active in the region.

The Garmian region, characterised by a rich historical and cultural heritage, is an economic and cultural crossroads with numerous archaeological sites and a strong Kurdish identity. In recent years, tourism in the region has increased, which the project intends to support with enhancement and dissemination activities.

Also on display is the educational board game 'Discover Garmian', designed to introduce children to history and archaeology.

The exhibition, open until 6 April with free admission, will offer moments of cultural insight and will inspire the exhibition 'Taste Archaeology. History is served", with the participation of researchers active in Asia.
