Mammadraga’s Puppet Workshop MAMMA DRAGA’S BACK ROOM

Comune di Coriano

It is said that, in 1570, in a tiny village near Bologna called La Malvolta, there was a curious little shop.
It was run by an old woman whom everyone in La Malvolta called Mammadraga. Mammadraga, whom no one had ever known before she grew old, kept behind the counter, in her back room, many bizarre artefacts, collected over the course of a lifetime.

Artefacts halfway between magic and nature which, when mixed together as needed, cured people of ailments both minor and major. Orazio Fontana, a Bolognese nobleman, having chanced upon the existence of the shop, decided to pay a visit to Mammadraga, in the hope of unearthing some marvel for his friend Ulisse Aldrovandi, a great naturalist.

A spectacle that explores the narrative mechanisms that give rise to fairy tales and addresses the atavistic social and gender discrimination of the civilisation that fairy tales portray.
