Tonino Guerra Prize 2026
Comune di Rimini
Dacia Maraini is to receive the 2026 Tonino Guerra Prize. The event will take place on Saturday 7 November at the Cinema Fulgor in Rimini, the cinema where Federico Fellini watched his first film.
The award ceremony is the highlight of a three-day event, from 6 to 8 November, which takes in the poet’s key locations: Santarcangelo di Romagna, where he was born; Pennabilli, where he lived for the last thirty years; and Rimini. There will be talks and film screenings centred on Guerra’s relationship with cinema, with a common thread linking his poetic vision to that of the award-winning writer.
Dacia Maraini is one of the most widely read and recognised voices in Italian literature, but fiction is only one part of her work: she has written essays, poetry and plays, and her works have inspired films that have left their mark. Her books have been translated into over 22 languages and published in as many countries.
The Prize is chaired by Laura Delli Colli and was established by Andrea Guerra, the chairman, together with the Board of the Tonino Guerra Museum and Study Centre. “His voice is also a valuable contribution to the debate on Tonino Guerra’s poetic and human legacy,” explains Andrea Guerra, noting that this is precisely the theme guiding the Award’s selections. Before Maraini, the award was presented to Luis Sepúlveda and Carmen Yanez, followed by the film directors Marco Tullio Giordana, Werner Herzog and Aleksandr Sokurov, who, a year ago, received the gold heraldic ring awarded to the laureates.
The Prize precedes the seventh edition of the Luoghi dell’Anima Festival, running from 9 to 13 December 2026, under the artistic direction of Steve Della Casa and Paola Poli.
November is the perfect month to head up to Pennabilli, where works born of Guerra’s imagination are scattered throughout the village, and to stop off at Santarcangelo. Three days to explore both, with Rimini bringing the journey to a close.
