EVENTO TRASCORSO
Joe Barbieri, Oscar Montalbano and Nico Di Battista at Albe in controuce, sunrise concerts on Riccione's beaches
Comune di Riccione
The fourth and final event of "Albe in controuce, concerts at sunrise on the beaches of Riccione" is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 4 (5:45 a.m.) at Golden Beach Spiaggia 75 with the Neapolitan composer among the world's most appreciated Italian songwriters who links songwriting to jazz and world music, Joe Barbieri in "Vulío. Homage to Neapolitan Song."
Pino Daniele considered him his "natural heir," but Joe Barbieri feels he is the son of many other putative fathers, from Umberto Bindi to Luigi Tenco, from Sergio Endrigo to Gino Paoli. A thaumaturge of the song who, with his crooner's voice, instills an extraordinary serenity in his listeners, Barbieri presents in Riccione "Vulío," his new album, a passionate and personal journey through the timeless pearls-and some future classics-of Neapolitan song, to which, as a Neapolitan by birth, he obviously feels particularly attached. "Those who know me know how much respectful modesty I have for the classic Neapolitan song," says the artist, "a modesty that over the years has often led me to desist from touching this treasure chest. However, inside me it has always burned "vulío," a word from my mother tongue that I find beautiful and that means desire."
"I felt it was time to pay a due and free homage to my beloved Naples," adds the musician, who has so far celebrated other musical worlds, from Brazil to jazz. On this celebratory journey to his Naples, which he sings accompanying himself on classical guitar, he has chosen two great six-string talents as his traveling companions, Oscar Montalbano on manouche guitar and Nico Di Battista on Dobro Guitar.
