Saludecio

Where it is

In this part of Seigneury Malatesta the hills are gentle, with long ridges ideal for building castles and villages combining defence with the best of civic development. From 1500 to 1800, Saludecio was the most important centre in this part of the Conca Valley.

Why visit it

A capital city in miniature, where tiny houses stand next to opulent mansions, creating a style both popular and aristocratic still visible today.
A large church, almost a cathedral, overlooks the square; an attractive little museum narrates the history and art of the town; the walls are surrounded by tree-lined avenues and well-tended gardens; and the streets are brought to life in the summer in a series of events and festivals.

Don't miss

Porta Marina, Porta Montanara 14th century
These are the main entrance gates to the town, two beautiful and perfectly preserved structures dating back to the time of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, which, with the walls that surround it, give us an idea of what the fortification of the town must have been like.

Mural paintings
50 murals on the theme of the 19th century and the most important and curious inventions of the 19th century. Painted on the walls of houses in the characteristic alleys, they form a colourful and original open-air museum that attracts the attention of thousands of tourists every year.

Parish church of San Biagio, Sanctuary of the holy Amato Ronconi and
Museum of Saludecio
A very interesting museum of sacred art where furnishings, vestments and ex-votos of excellent workmanship are on display, and above all paintings of great artistic value including 2 Cagnacci, the Centino, C. Ridolfi, etc...

Biagio Church
It has rightly been called the cathedral of the Conca Valley, not only because of its size and its fine 18th-century architecture, the Crypt, a rare neoclassical jewel, but also because of the remarkable heritage of works of art it houses and the presence in the same building of the remains of the much revered Saint Amato Ronconi.

Keeping fit

Very interesting are the walks around Cerreto Castle and the Castle of Meleto, towards the Ventena Valley of Saludecio: we are in a part particularly well-preserved part of the hills of the middle Conca Valley, which offers remarkable landscapes especially in spring and autumn. Excellent trails for trekking and mountain biking.
