Riuso del Moderno
Comune di Rimini
Reuse of the Modern - Urban regeneration among skyscrapers, factories and art to overcome the culture of 'waste
Between October and November 2024, the Reuse of the Modern returns, now in its third edition, promoted by the Order of Architects of the Province of Rimini.
The event is articulated on the one hand through a nucleus of thematic exhibitions set up throughout the month of October in the Modern Wing of the City Museum, and on the other through a number of seminar meetings scheduled during the months of October and November.
On the occasion of the photo contest entitled '1-2-3 Skyscraper', more than 90 shots were collected, many of which will be put on display in the City Museum.
The exhibitions, nine in total, focused on highly topical subjects:
- Former Buzzi Unicem cement factory and other factories
- The Rimini skyscraper: history and chronicle
- Rimini artists: visions of the skyscraper
- Redevelopment of the Cesenatico skyscraper
- Rigenera E-R
- Tresigallo: images of architecture
- The Mendrisio Academy of Architecture rethinks Rimini - regeneration: ideas for today's Rimini
- Living Mutoid
- Invisible cities
The focuses of the Reuse of the Modern in this edition are basically 4 urban regeneration as an operational horizon within which to rethink the very reuse of individual interventions, with a particular focus on the areas of historical centres; the skyscraper as a building experience that incorporates both a vision of the territory typical of modernity, and its configuration as a true "laboratory" of social and civil coexistence; disused industrial buildings as a community heritage, increasingly the object of interest in the context of renewed urban regeneration processes; the radical experience of the Mutoid group as a concrete testimony, on the level of artistic "provocation", as a prophetic "operational critique" of a rampant culture of waste, which characterises much of our contemporary society.
The intention of the initiative is to investigate the aspects of a multiple action of valorisation of an architectural heritage intended as a historical legacy to be preserved and passed on to future generations, with particular attention to the theme of "urban regeneration to be considered as a virtuous alternative to uncontrolled expansion and further land consumption".
At the same time, the event is also an important opportunity to return to public discussion of the territory, lighting a beacon for a new demand for architecture, understood as a demand for culture, quality transparency and legality.
